FUSPI History

The Faculty of Ushuluddin and Islamic Thought (FUSPI) of Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten was officially established on 1 July 2026. Its establishment was preceded by Minister of Religious Affairs Regulation (PMA) Number 8 of 2026 concerning the Organization and Work Procedures of Universitas Islam Negeri Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten, stipulated on 14 April 2026, and was then marked by Rector's Decree No. 249/Un.17/BA.III.2/KP.07.6/07/2026 appointing its first Dean. Since 2026, FUSPI has managed three study programmes: Aqidah and Islamic Philosophy (AFI), Qur'anic Studies and Exegesis (IAT), and Hadith Studies (IH).

Although the name FUSPI is new, ushuluddin studies in Banten have deep roots. They grew alongside Islamic higher education in Serang: from the Maulana Yusuf Faculty of Shari'ah founded by the people of Banten in 1961, to a branch faculty of IAIN, then STAIN, IAIN, and finally UIN. This account traces that path chronologically, focusing on the institutional developments that laid the foundation of FUSPI.
